- As of 7 October, the whole of New Zealand has been placed under Alert Level 1, following the lifting of coronavirus restrictions in Auckland.
- PM Jacinda Ardern expressed confidence that the second wave of infections in Auckland is almost eliminated.
- PM Ardern cautioned against being complacent under the relaxation of rules and urged people to continue using the COVID-19 contact tracer app.
- Dubbed the “COVID election”, PM Ardern’s Labour Party won in a landslide victory in New Zealand’s 2020 General Elections. PM Ardern had campaigned on her government’s success in eliminating community transmission of the virus.
