ENTERING RECOVERY PHASE

Ministry of Health issued order to test samples of food packaging as a precautionary measure.

MEASURES

  • As domestic situation stabilises, the government is taking preventive measures to avoid any resurgence.
  • Strict control measures will be taken to test for the presence of the virus, especially against frozen food imported from countries with large COVID-19 outbreaks.
  • On 24 November, the Ministry of Health issued Directive No. 24 on the strengthening of strict implementation of measures to prevent and control COVID-19.
  • As part of the Directive, food safety and hygiene sub-departments or agencies and units in provinces and cities are to inspect and supervise establishments with import food trade and collaborate in the sampling and testing of imported food to assess the risk of COVID-19 contamination.

IMPACT ON FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN

  • The step to test imported food packaging could potentially impact the importation of cold chain food products. Importers are to monitor the implementation of the inspection plan.
