Updates in Vietnam on border controls

  • On 18 January 2022, the Vietnam government issued a new directive allowing foreign employees and overseas Vietnamese with valid visa exemption certificates to enter Vietnam without approval from the immigration department and the local peoples committee. The government further eased quarantine requirements for international travellers entering Vietnam:
    • Incoming travellers who have been fully vaccinated, or have recovered from COVID-19, are required to self-quarantine at home for 3 days. Those who test negative for COVID-19 on the third day can move around the country freely.
    • Travelers who have not yet been fully vaccinated are still required to quarantine at home for seven days, while those arriving from countries that have reported cases of the Omicron variant are subject to a COVID-19 test upon arrival in Vietnam.
