The China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) announced emergency measures to prevent importation of the coronavirus through imported frozen foods.

MEASURES

  • On 11 September, the China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) announced emergency measures to prevent importation of the coronavirus through imported frozen foods.
  • Under the emergency measures;
    • If a foreign company’s cold chain food or its packaging is found to be positive for the coronavirus nucleic acid, the GACC will suspend the company’s inward declaration for one week. The inward declaration will be automatically resumed after one week.
    • If a foreign company’s cold chain food or its packaging is found to be positive for the coronavirus nucleic acid for three times or more, the GACC will stop accepting the inward declaration for four weeks. The inward declaration will be automatically resumed after four weeks.
  • The emergency measures come into force immediately on 11 September 2020.
  • In July, the packaging and containers of imported shrimp have been tested positive for COVID-19. Since then, the GACC has strengthened screening controls on imported products. The industry shall continue to monitor the progress of the issue development.
  • In September, the GACC updated the list of meat eligible for export to China from countries or regions that meet the requirements of assessment and review. In view of an outbreak among employees at the production facility, on 13 September, GACC stops accepting inward declaration from a US-based company which imports poultry products to China.
