ENTERING RECOVERY PHASE
New Zealand continues to open up to trade.
MEASURES
- On New Zealand (NZ)’s vaccine rollout, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern confirmed NZ would receive a million more doses of the Pfizer vaccine in July. Ardern claimed this will significantly ramp up NZ’s vaccination rollout, which is key to reopening borders.
- New Zealand is nudging trade group Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) to remove all tariffs on COVID-19 vaccines and related medical products, but is facing opposition from some members who believe the plan is too ambitious. Members are, instead, more willing to agree on best practices for the movement of vaccines and related medical products across borders.
