New Zealand changes pandemic plan against the Omicron Variant

  • On 22 December 2021, it was reported
    • booster vaccines will be brought forward for the whole population and mandated for border and health workers
    • stays in managed isolation and quarantine (MIQ) will be extended temporarily from 7 to 10 days
    • quarantine-free arrivals for Kiwis coming from Australia delayed from mid-January until the end of February
    • vaccination for children aged 5 to 11 has been approved from January 17
    • if Omicron spreads into the community, the Government would look to use the red setting in the traffic-light system rather than using lockdowns
    • Several cases of Omicron have been detected at the border in MIQ facilities but it had not been found in the community
