Tokyo governor requested residents to avoid travelling, especially over Obon holiday.

  • The Obon, a Buddhist tradition when the living honour their ancestors, starts from 13 August to 16 August 2020. The Tokyo Governor has asked residents not to travel especially during the Obon. If the situation worsens, the local governor will consider to declare a state of emergency in Tokyo.
  • Meanwhile, the national government is urging people who plan to travel during Obon to take precautionary steps, including avoid the ‘’Three Cs’’ spaces, such as closed spaces, crowds and close-contact conversation.
