The Tokyo and Osaka governments lifted restrictions on dining establishments.


  • On 21 October 2021, the Tokyo and Osaka governments announced that the restrictions will be lifted for restaurants and bars.
  • With the restrictions eliminated, the restaurant will no longer be asked to stop providing alcohol by 8pm and close by 9pm.
  • For Tokyo, the number of people who can sit at the same table will be controlled at four. A group of five or more people with proof of vaccination will be allowed to sit at the same table.
  • For Osaka, the prefectural government will continue to control the limit of number of people who can sit together. Meanwhile, the prefectural government will encourage public to refrain from dining for longer than 2 hours.
  • The relaxations started on 25 October 2021.
