The government announced extension of state of emergency in response to surge in COVID-19 cases.


  • The 3rd state of emergency which was issued on 25 April 2021 will be extended to 31 May 2021, with the inclusion of two more prefectures: Aichi and Fukuoka.
    • Prohibition of serving alcohol and offering karaoke services.
    • Restaurants and bars, department stores and movie theaters are allowed to be opened, bust must close by 8 pm.
    • Sports events are allowed to be held with a cap of 5000 people or 50% of the venue’s capacity, but the events must end by 9 pm.
  • On 14 May 2021, Hokkaido, Okayama and Hiroshima will be added to the state of emergency.
  • On 21 May 2021, Okinawa will be added to the state of emergency until 20 June 2021.
