Australia’s military steps in to tackle a surge in COVID-19 cases in Victoria.
MEASURES
- Victoria state sees a spike in COVID-19 cases (mostly within Melbourne city), sparking fears of a second wave.
- On June 21, the State Government re-introduced tougher restrictions and extended a state of emergency for four weeks. The support of the Australian Defence Force was requested for testing, monitoring and logistics, while other states have offered to assist on contact tracing.
- Major supermarkets within the state have also re-imposed buying limits on essential items due to concerns of panic buying.
