Australia faces lockdown as cases escalate.
- On 17 August 2021, New South Wales (NSW) Premier Ms. Gladys Berejiklian announced NSW is considering easing Covid-19 restrictions as early as in September after 50% of NSW residents are fully vaccinated. The Premiers of Victoria and Western Australia have criticised NSW’s decision.
- On 19 August 2021, Australia announced restrictions on all New Zealanders travelling to Australia. Any people flying from New Zealand to Australia will now need to undergo 14 days in hotel quarantine. The restrictions are initially set to last until 24 August (New Zealand Time) but will be reviewed on 20 August.
